High Tech Treatment for Arthritis

May 23, 2007

According to 7 EyewitnessNews, research is being carried out on a new high tech method of gauging arthritis.

At this stage the research is being carried out on patients with Juvenile Arthritis at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburg.

The technique uses a thermal camera to "measure the pattern of the skin's temperature. Patients with arthritis have higher temperatures or 'more red' around the joints.

A second camera takes a 3D snapshot of just part of the wrist to get a better look at the joint. Even the smallest changes are easily noted."

Doctors consider that early detection will help to prevent long term damage to the joints. The use of the cameras, it is hoped, will provide more objective results and lead to more accurate dosage of medications.
